Native RAW file format support coming to XP
Microsoft plans to add extensive support for RAW files under Longhorn.
But in the interim, they plan to add unofficial support for some RAW file formats using their "PowerToy" utility. This will allow looking at thumbnails, viewing images etc without needing to do a 'convert'. It will make life much simpler for a lot of digital photographers.
The following file formats will be supported.
- Canon EOS RAW images (.crw, .cr2, .tif)
- Nikon Electronic Format images (.nef)
